Born in November 1945 in Hong Kong, Gordon Siu is a career civil servant, joining the Hong Kong Civil Service in 1966 and retiring in 2002.

Mr Siu started learning the violin and conducting in primary school. He joined the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra in 1965 and became its leader in 1966. He led the Youth Orchestra to the International Festival of Youth Orchestras held in Scotland in 1973 and founded the Hong Kong Youth Music Society in 1974 with three other volunteers. In 1977, he founded the Music Office of the Hong Kong Government.

Since his retirement in 2002, Mr Siu has given full support to youth music exchange activities, and founded the Music For Our Young Foundation in 2009. Nowadays, the Foundation has members from 29 schools or organisations from China, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
